A description of my journey to improve my eyesight naturally

Over the past five days I have been doing my long swings and my autogenics maintenance.  As I have been getting back in to reading my Snellen chart everyday and doing my swings and Bates practice I have again seen an improvement in my acuity.  Saturday I was able to read 20/70, yet today I could read 20/50!  The letters are not as black as I would like, but I can tell I’m back to the point I was a month ago.  I have been doing my Eyebody practice everyday (what I know of it) and that always seems to bring a balance to my head and neck.  This last weekend I spent a great deal of time outdoors without my glasses on and I’m certain my vision is consistenly 20/50 outdoors; it is good enough to do most things.

Completed:

  • Stretching
  • 13 minutes of speed intervals on the recumbent bike
  • some light weight lifting exercises
  • 100 long swings
  • palming

Still too cloudy to test visual acuity.  It is supposed to be nice Saturday so I’m hoping to document my VA then.   I’ve started reading “Restoring Your Eyesight: A Taoist Approach” by Doug Marsh.  So far I really like it.   I find that keeping up with reading on the topic of Natural Vision Improvement keeps me motivated.  Each different author offers a new perspective that usually rings a new bell with respect to approach or consideration of the methods.

Completed:

  • One palming session
  • 125 long swings
  • Eyebody practice
  • Reading my Snellen from 20 feet with a laser pointer in dim light (cleared to 20/100!)
  • Stretching

I started experimenting with using a laser pointer when I read my Snellen sometimes and I really like it.  The bright light helps me to focus on moving my eyes across the line and prevents staring.

It has been cloudy and rainy lately and as a result I still haven’t been able to get a good bright light acuity reading on my Snellen chart.  Without any relaxation at all however I was able to read 20/200 in VERY dim light tonight, so I know I have not lost any progress.  I’m looking forward to multiple sunny noon-times when I can get back to my Snellen reporting.

I was out of town these past four days.   I was able to do one autogenics per day and spent quite a bit of time outdoors without my glasses on.   I’ve completed the last phase of autogenics and will not be posting about it anymore; from now on I will be doing the once a day session for maintenance.  I will post the phrases I use for my eyes however (when I finalize them).

Nothing new to report!  Been busy and out of town, so I haven’t checked my visual acuity for the week yet.

Completed:

  • 30 minute workout on recumbent bike
  • thorough stretching
  • 100 long swings
  • palming
  • 2 autogenics sessions

My focus on doing the Bates Method seems to be coming and going this past month; relative to how busy I am.  I have been terrible about doing swings and palming everyday, but once again I find myself on the “upswing” and getting back into my practice.  Luckily I have continued with the autogenics and will be finished this weekend — then I will have one short session to do each day to maintain what I have gained through four months of preparation.   I have renewed vigor for making myself find 3-20 minute sections of time each day to devote to the Bates Method as I was seeing incredible progress when I was diligent with my practice.  Remembering the progress I’ve had so far motivates me because I know if I were practicing everyday right now I would still be progressing.  As summer is on the verge of being here I look forward to spending more time outside and taking advantage of the full sun.

Completed:

  • 40 long swings
  • palming (only for a few minutes)
  • 2 autogenics sessions

The days I did not post I only did my autogenics work and light stretching.  I have not updated my acuity as it hasn’t been bright enough to make equivalent readings.

Wednesday – Friday I have been very busy helping a family member move, and Saturday I was down with a headache for most of the day.  I was able to do my autogenics at the bare minimum for all of these days however.  I also got in a 20 minute treadmill workout on Friday. The other thing I have been trying to do regularly is shift my vision around objects VERY slowly.  I’ve found that the slower I sketch/shift the better my vision becomes.   I usually only remember to do this outside; I need to practice inside as well.

Completed today (so far… may be updated later):

  • 2 autogenics sessions (final phase)
  • sunning/palming 30 minutes outside
  • 100 long swings

I updated my vision progress graph on the other page — still at 20/100.  This past week has continued to be stressful and it’s still affecting my vision…  a bummer, but I’m getting back on track.  I have not made a graph of my “dim light visual acuity without glasses” yet, but it’s still at 20/200.
